Working Together

Because staring at the same pages over and over won’t magically show you what’s not working. I’ve been there. I’ve worked with three different coaches myself, and every time it pushed my story forward in ways I couldn’t do alone. Even the best writers need outside help—not just to improve their story, but to grow as a writer.

The real cost of not investing? Staying stuck. Stuck in revision limbo. Stuck trying to begin. Or stuck with a story you know isn’t quite there, but you can’t figure out how to fix it. When you’re deep in your own story, it’s hard to see what’s missing.

And sometimes, staying stuck for too long means you stop trying altogether.

I operate within the Eastern Standard Time Zone, so if you are in a different time zone, I welcome you to hire me with the understanding that with the difference in time zones, response times may be at odd hours, and Zoom calls may be difficult to schedule. However, most of my work is done through email and Zoom calls are optional, so if you want to take advantage of them, we’ll just need to find a time that works for both our time zones.

Elli does all of this so well. From the sweeping commentary on bigger themes, to the small excitements of meeting new characters, to my pesky punctuation errors, she covered it all.

Personally, I found her feedback most helpful when it came to world building. As a fantasy writer, no matter how thoroughly you prepare your pallet, there will be colors you miss in the paint-by-number craft of fantasy worlds. So you need another set of eyes; honest eyes with honed precision to point out the blank corners of your canvas.
